Overview
SnapText Pro is designed with privacy as a core principle. All text extraction (OCR) processing occurs entirely on your device using Tesseract.js. No screenshots, images, or extracted text are ever uploaded to our servers.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Screenshots or images you capture
- Text extracted from your images
- Browsing history or URLs you visit
- Personal information of any kind
- Cookies or tracking data
Data Stored Locally
The following data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API and never leaves your device:
- Your extension settings (language preference, theme, etc.)
- OCR history (text results only, stored locally)
- Usage statistics (scan count, character count — for your reference only)
AI Enhancement Feature
When you use the optional AI text enhancement feature, your extracted text is sent to Pollinations.ai (a free, open AI API) for processing. This is the only instance where data leaves your device, and it is:
- Only triggered by your explicit action (clicking "AI Cleanup")
- Text-only — no images are ever sent
- Processed by Pollinations.ai's privacy policy
Permissions
- activeTab: To capture screenshots of the current tab
- storage: To save your settings and history locally
- contextMenus: To add right-click options
- offscreen: To process OCR in the background
